The beginning is the end

Now the last stage track. I already picked 2 oddball stage tracks (a special and an endless) so I might as well go with another one.

MM7 - Opening Stage

I wish it was more than a minute long, but I think it kicks ass. The other tracks that I heavily considered were Air Man, and the other special stages from MM10. If only we could've had some Shadow level track slots to fit more stage tracks in.

Seriously. I was still paying attention

Though my album was already done and mixed. Knew I was going to take MM9 title since you all filled that spot back around the what, 3rd? 4th round? So yea, that and the game over complete my album.

So you guys know, before we present our arrangements, we usually give funny/clever titles to our albums. Looking forward to it.

It's about time

I've been checking every day up there, and it took me coming home to get Dennis to make his damn pick. I've known what my last picks were going to be.
Anyhoo... i'll pick my opening track, and I won't have it match my title track like the rest of you did (mostly cause the MM4 opening is 2 parts, and I didn't want just one of them. I''m taking the opening from MM6:

MM6 - Capcom Logo

What makes this one awesome is it's the only one that includes the opening Capcom sound we all know and love.

Take that Dr Wily, you old bitch!

Yeah, I know...I'm finally picking something. At this stage in the game I didn't think anyone was paying attention. Anyway, it's time to pick an Epilogue.

Megaman 6 - Ending

Picking up the table scraps

Saving my bonus track for the last pick.

I do like the Mega Man stage select theme, but I wish it were more than four seconds long. So I'll take a little bit of a dark horse. Mega Man 8 - Stage Select.

And I know there's 20 variations of the Mega Man 2 stage intro, but I'll resolve to take something different, and there's only one left: Mega Man 5 - Game Start.

Mega Man Live

Ok so I'm going to go with a bonus song. It took a while to find a really good one that I like, but it's from a band that does Video Game music LIVE. They are called....wait for it....Video Games Live: Level 2. So here is what it's called:

This was a hard choice

As much as I wanted a metal cover version of MM2 - Wily's Castle theme...and Powerglove, The Megas, and Armcannon all do fucking awesome versions of it... I decided to use my second bonus track on one of my favorite songs in existence, a song that when I heard it on college, it got me into one of my favorite bands ever and got me listening to a different genre of metal too. While it does not borrow any tunes from Mega Man, the lyrics are absolutely inspired by Mega Man.

"Cutsman" by Horse the Band

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7wpzKvNhfA

We can finish this tonight

Three of my final 4 picks will be in categories that I'm the only one left picking. So I could really make all 4 of my picks now...but I wont.

Bonus #2. The Megas - Crash Man. Love the base at the beginning. Good guitar solo as well. Not the biggest fan of the ending, but I love the base.

MM4 - Skull Castle Part 1

Dennis is trying to play Wii Fit right now

MM3 - Skull Castle Map

Guys, I may not be able to make my picks tomorrow until late. I'll be headed to Toronto.

Great, I jumped in the same set of spikes AGAIN

Yup, time for my game over and this time it is NOT MM2 or MM4.

MM5 - Game Over

Did Aaron already make the Needle Dick joke?

First thing's first, Mega Man 7 - All Stage Clear.

Next, bonus track pick. There is way too much to choose from, and two tracks alone can't represent the diversity of Mega Man arrangements there are. I'm going to take one from the OCRemix community which I've loved for awhile and found pretty inventive.

nyKad, Dale North, Nate Cloud, Mustin - Needles

Here's the link to listen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or8dzBebECo

Moving along in quick fashion

I needed a Stage Boss, so I got myself a stage boss. Enough said.

MM4 - Stage Boss

Fuck that bird!

Now that all I have left are the final picks for a bunch of categories, it is time to dip into the bonus tracks. Dennis claims to know the tracks I plan on taking, so i'll have to take one before he does. My pick:

"Storm Eagle" by Powerglove

It's a metal version of the track from Mega Man X. You can check it out at the youtube link below. I saw them live once (and watched numerous clips of the live shows), and when they play this song they get the audience to chant "Fuck that bird!" the entire time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYvrh-oTR8s

yeah...

With the MM3 stage select, I really should have swiped the MM3 game start, but I didn't. The 6 stage start flows well though. Still, I'd love to have the thunder crack in the back that the game has but the song doesn't.

I'm also taking the MM5 password. Whatever.

Pick #79

Even though the stage clears are all so similar, I'll go with MM10 - Stage Clear, for it to match up with my Get a Weapon track. Wow, that makes 6 selections from MM10 for me.

It sure was awesome...now we need to beat the rest of the Mega Man games!

CJ is correct, most of these are just formalities now. Since I have most of the MM2 intro-type tracks I might as well go all out here, especially since most of these have a big gap in them that doesn't really flow right. That being said, I am going with the stage intro from MM2.

MM2 - Stage Introduction.

Remember that time we all hung out and played Mega Man 6? That was awesome.

A lot of these are just formalities now, though I do need a little bit of time to fine tune my Bonus Picks. In the meatime, two quick selections.

First off, Mega Man 6 - Last Boss. A little more downtempo than a typical final boss theme but I do like the melody.

Secondly, Mega Man 10 - Game Over, because, well, whatever.

Saturday, December 25, 2010

Everybody get a weapon!

Nothing clever for me. Busy day, but I want to move this along.

MM6 - Get a weapon

Friday, December 24, 2010

New high score? Is that bad? Did I break it?

MM6 - Game Over. My only MM6 representative.

I've got a Snake Man!

I know what you are thinking. Snake man is gone? Well, not this version. It's the DiscoDan 06_SnakeMan_GetDownMix. I will email you all with it attached. I'm sure Dennis and Dorian would never pick a club remix of one of these songs.

As for my other pick, MM1 stage clear. Different than all the rest and a cheerier tone.

1 2 3 4 5? That's the same combination that's on my luggage!

CJ, thank you for leaving the last stage for me to pick. I can't decide, and could use the extra time. Although Pharaoh Man was among those I couldn't decide on.

Anyways, MM4 - Pass Word. Cause why not.

Party at the Wily House

I needed a Wily intro and I found me a Wily intro. So for that I turn once again to Mega Man 4.

MM4 - Skull Castle Map

If you won't AA, then I will

If Aaron's not going to take Pharaoh Man then I will. Debated taking Sheep Man (most awesome boss ever), but the only reason I was going to is to represent MM10.

That being said, I will take Dr. Wily Castle from Mega Man 10. It's kinda odd because I really do like the 10 soundtrack, but in every category I kept finding one or two other games I liked more. I also backed off Abandoned Memory despite strongly considering taking it.

This house is clear

The pickings are slim and at this point I am the last one to pick certain categories that I can wait on, so why not pick this category first. Most of them are identical. This one isn't much different, but it has a little extra to it. I'm going with a Stage Clear theme. I wanted to use MM5 so I could attempt to represent all the games, but I feel like some sound tracks don't really deserve to be represented. Anyway...

MM9 - Stage Clear

You got AIDS

MM10 - You Got

No reason in particular

All 10 represented...

Even with a few more picks, these next 2 will get me to the summit of having all 10 games represented. Not an original goal, but one I've now achieved.

I never thought I'd have so many stage tracks to choose from at the end, but see the theme of the songs I wanted to choose from: Wave, Blizzard, Splash...and then Stone, Gyro, and Pharoah. I think in the end, I'll look at Pharoah as the track I should've taken but didn't. Anyway, this pick is Splash Blue (Splash Woman).

For my next pick, this is about the only way MM7 was getting represented. Wily Stage Map.

This pick will keep me warm this winter

Well shit, I really wanted either Tornado or Commando as my next pick. I'll have to go with my backup MM9 track, Magma Man. Save an oddball pick for the next round.

I'm going Commando

This is the last stage theme that I need and I tried to take on from an under-represented game. I'm going to MM10 on this one. There are couple that are decent on this game, but this one stands out to me.

MM10 - Commando Man

Thursday, December 23, 2010

I don't know about you assholes, but I'm spent ...

Thanks guys, needed a few minutes just for comparison's sake.

The Wily tracks are stripped pretty bare at this point. Maybe I should have taken the Mega Man 4 Wily track last round but it's fine; this was always a fall back track in case others were taken or I stopped worrying about loading up on Mega Man 5 tracks.

Mega Man 5 - Dark Man Stage

There are still plenty of great stage tracks left in this contest, and there's certainly much to choose from. Even if I didn't need to represent this game, I think it's good enough to qualify. It's quite funky and it's got a lot of energy.

Mega Man 9 - Thunder Tornado (Tornado Man Stage)

And the Stage is Set

Since I have the prologue and the title it seems only fitting to use this as my stage select...

MM2 - Stage Select

What was that skull fuck joke again?

I guess that the Wily tracks aren't quite as deep as originally thought, cause this is the last one I still liked. MM4 - Skull Castle Part 2

Regret....

Dorian, great pick with Cossack P2. Should have taken it last turn and left Ruins until the very end. It's time to do some Wily tracks....finally. Going with the 1B comparison, it's like taking Papi as your starting 1B. Gonna start with MM5 - Dr. Wily stage. Was afraid this stage would've been taken after we heard it for 3 straight boards tonight while we played MM5.

With my other pick, gonna go with with a fast/heavy Wily track. It will contrast the MM5 track. MM10 - Wily One, Abandoned Memory.

Hi, my name is...

I'll let you guys pick among the lame password tracks, and i'll go with the sweetest stage intro track, MM3 - Stage Intro.

What is the Password? "ORRRGGGGYYYYYYY

Password time. CJ took the best, so I'm taking the only real option next.

MM3 - Password

I'm Oscar! (.COM)

Hey guys, I'm using a blog post to tell you my picks ... even though you're right in the room.

Any way, going against the book here, maybe because I'm trusting my gut, or maybe because I can't hear anything over the TV blasting.

First pick, I'm pilfering the Password category. Originally had 4 on top, but I'm taking this instead, because it's more iconic.

Mega Man 2 - Pass Word

Next, hard to choose between ending tunes at this point but this is an underrated one.

Mega Man 1 - Ending

Pick #Next

This pick had to be Wily and there are so many good ones left. Aaron was right about that much. Hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day! There are 4 that I am having trouble deciding on, but the verdict is....

MM10 - Wily 2 (Against the Pressure)

Thou shalt not covet...

Knowing that Aaron and CJ were coveting this track from reading the comments, I considered picking this sooner. Cossack Citadel Part 2 from MM4. Superior to Part 1 by consensus, by the way. Plus cossacks are Ukrainian warriors, which makes a little sense for me to pick it.

I think I pick better at Dennis and Dorians

Yes CJ, we are all hanging out and you are not here. It would be awesome if you were here and will be awesome when we get together to listen to the albums and play some megaman.

2 picks here. When I started the draft, I thought there was no way I was picking a song from 7 or 8. As it wore on, I feel like I want to represent them both. Here's my 8 representation. It's a cool song with the treble part greatly resembling the MM3 - you got song. Ruins.

With my second pick, I'm taking a stage song that I considered taking a couple picks ago. Can't let it go any longer and it only adds to my uber collection of MM3 tracks. Needle (dick) Man.

Cause every great album has a great ballad...

I'm gonna bring the tempo down, so break out your lighters for "Farewell to Ballade", aka MM10 Special Stage 3.

Have you noticed I really don't have good explanations for most of my picks? I go by my gut, and my heart.

"It's really Goddamn Bright out here."

I am digging back in to the jackpot that is Mega Man 4. This game has such good music. I never realized how good it was. Anyhow, this is now the 3rd stage I have taken from that game.

MM4 - Bright Man

Pick #44

Wait, we're not counting any more?

You guys have done an excellent job of stepping up your game these last couple rounds. Some really good picks. Slash Man was definitely the best stage track from MM7. Good pick Dennis.

Then again, losing Flash in the Dark was a killer. It would have been an easy choice here. Instead, I've subjected myself to nine different Wily possibilities, and I've flip-flopped more times than I can count. Incredibly difficult to separate. In fact, I'm surprised I'm taking this track. It leapfrogged a couple others I had in mind. Admittedly it's melody isn't the strongest, but its got atmosphere out the wazoo and a foreboding intro that really sets the tone for the whole track.

Mega Man 7 - Wily Stage 1

This next track I almost took instead of Snake Man -- in Round 2! I only held back because the last thing I need is more MM3 tracks. But it's still in my Top 5, and it's fallen long enough. I'm "shocked" (pun somewhat intended) it's still around at this point. No longer.

Mega Man 3 - Spark Man

I don't just play kick ass guitar solos and wear a neat hat...

Ok so a lot of really good stages are off the table, but I think there are some good ones still hidden out there. This next pick is the first one to be taken from MM7. I listened to it a few times and it gets better every time.

MM7 - Slash Man

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

One hit wonder

Time to throw up those horns! (No, not Centaur Man) The only master robot that I know of that is weak to his own power, fuckin' Metal Man! Cause that's how awesome the power of metal is.
Kind of expected more MM2 songs to be off the board by now, but whatevs.

Maybe I was quick, as a teenager

Funny story about Quick Man's music. On my comp, it doesn't play for more than 7 seconds before switching to the next song. CJ can confirm this. I had to go to youtube to listen to it. I hope it doesn't fuck up on my album.

Then I'm taking my stage boss music. It's my first track from MM6. So now I have 1-6 represented. BTW, don't expect me to represent all 10 games.....

Anyone see the new theme colors? they are the colors of our lovable hero. And take the poll to the right!

Keeping the streak alive

To continue with my selections from MM10, I'm taking the stage select track. I feel like it is the strongest of a somewhat weak category.

Who's the Boss?

No, unfortunately Alyssa Milano will not have anything to do with this album. Sad, I know. We are going to have to settle for Dr. Albert W. Wily. doing his bad buy thing. I have been listening to these things all day and I've settle with this one from Mega Man 9...

Dr. Wily Stage 1 - Flash in the Dark

Day Man .... Ohhhhhh Ahhhhh ... Fighter of the Knight Man ...

I'm making a concerted effort to branch out. I could take Mega Man 3 and 5 tracks all day, but I need well-balanced representation. These were a couple of my sleepers but let's take them now for some diversity.

First pick, obviously, Knight Man. I find Mega Man 6 to be a pretty pedestrian soundtrack, but this stage theme and another clearly stand out to me. Love the heavy atmospheric opening. Solid track.

My stage boss pick is a little bit of a curve ball. I think it counts because it's a theme for fighting a boss, though a specialized one. I'm happy to open this up to a ruling. Anyway, the track rocks with the trumpet synths; the whole song has a nice heroic bent to it, and it stands out on a pretty average soundtrack.

Mega Man 8 - Intermission Stage - Duo Battle

...And that's final!

So in keeping with the theme of Final Battles I'm going to pick mine before they all suck. It took some thinking since the standouts are gone, but I'm going with the final battle theme from MM7. It actually has a pretty cool build-up.

MM7 - Final Theme

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Let's fuckin Rage!

As my final battle track, I want Dr. Wily Machine from MM10. It looks like a Wily Castle Boss battle, but not the very final one. Objections?

It's the Final.....Boss?

So the title was supposed to be to the tune of Dennis's theme song, The Final Countdown. This category has yet to be dipped into, so I'm doing it. The final battle theme to MM3 is the only one that sticks out in my mind, so now it's on my album.

For my other pick, I'm taking a stage from MM3 as well. In fact, I think I should just make my entire album MM3. I actually told CJ which I was taking earlier, but am changing my mind after the half bottle of wine and two drinks and shot of tequila at the bar after. Shadow Man.

Picking 2 at once is awesome, the wait in the middle blows.

The other kind of eclipse

From MM10, i'll take Solar Man. There's a part in there that reminds me too much of Metallica's "One" for me not to grab it.

I just want to plant my seed...

This is a song from a completely untouched MM game. This one is from MM6...

Plant Man

I am serious ... and don't call me Shirley.

I'm very pleased at this point because I considered taking these two songs last time around, but decided to wait. It was worth it.

This is my top intro track, even over Mega Man 2. Combined with the title track from Mega Man 5, it has such energy and build-up. I'm a huge fan.

Mega Man 5 - Opening

Next, I'm dipping into the deep Wily pool. There's so many choices you can't go wrong here. In fact, the other Wily track from this game is just as good. If I lost one, I always knew I could take the other. But this track is worth it.

Mega Man 3 - Skull Castle Part 1

You aren't the Boss of me...

I decided to make my next pick my first Wily-type pick. Dorian obviously got the top dog in Wily stages I'm going with this one that I think is pretty close for me...

MM4 - Cossack Citadel Part 1

Monday, December 20, 2010

Who saw this one coming?

Gonna throw you guys a curveball... as one of my stage tracks, I'm taking Endless Stage from MM9

Like A Typical Saturday Night, I'm Picking A Couple of Fours

Some good picks this round. After Dennis took Skull Man, I was looking at other MM4 tracks and this one just stood out. He's also possibly the easiest boss ever with the M. Buster. Toad Man

As well, to continue the run of You Got tracks, I've had my eye on this one the whole time. MM3 is probably a better "song" but this I feel just personifies the mood of what a "you got" track should be. MM4 "You Got".

Bonus Picks

Also remember, you get to take two bonus selections. This can be anything: arrangements of Mega Man tracks, songs from the MMX series, songs inspired by Mega Man but not containing any source material. It's all wide open.

An even better version of the classic

Since the title for MM2 is gone, I figure I can get a better, longer version of the song at better value. So i'm taking the Staff Roll from MM4. Badass way to end the CD

Carve this pick in stone...err Concrete

That's right. I'm going against the grain here and reaching farther. I disagree a little that there isn't depth to some of these songs. There are a lot of really good songs left and many are remarkably similar to those on other games. For my next pick I am going all the way to Mega Man 9. I never played it, but the song is awesome...

Concrete Man

You Got ... Herpes

Sorry for the delay guys, busy day at work. Very, very tough point at the draft. Four tracks I'm itching to take but I can only choose two.

This first track I could have very easily taken in the first round and been satisfied. But I figured it would slide under the radar and it was just a matter of when I would get antsy to take it. Well at this point I couldn't forgive myself if someone else swooped in and took it. Gotta make the call.

Mega Man 5 - Charge Man

This next track is my clear, clear, clear favorite in this category. I think it's a steep enough dropoff to the next one that I needed to make the move now.

Mega Man 3 - You Got

Excuse me sir, I can see your bone...

So Dorian made an awesome pick with Cut man. That was one of my MM1 favorites. Aaron, nice job with the MM2 Epilogue. That game has been thoroughly picked apart at this point.

For my next pick, I'm sticking with another pretty sweet MM4 song that I warmed up to after listening a few times. A lot of the really good Stage Bosses are being taken so here's one more...

SKULL MAN

Sunday, December 19, 2010

cut cut cut

Aaron, I was planning on jumping into MM1 too! My next pick is Cutman from MM1. I pick it because I think he is the most classic of the master robots, and the song is pretty sweet too.

2 Picks out of necessity and fear

I'm very grateful I had the first pick, but picking at the turn and seeing 7 other songs come off the board in between is tough. Of the last 7 picks, the two title screens hurt the most. 5 was my ace in the hole after 3, but it's gone. At least I can wait on that now since all you have picked it. The 2 MM2 picks kill as well.

In response, I feel the need to get in on the MM2 party. I'm actually not very surprised that I haven't selected a song from the game yet. The only song that truly stood out was Wiley P1 and we see how long that lasted. All the other songs of that game are classic, but I played 3 and 4 so much that those songs stand out as well. To end my soliloquy, I'm taking the Epilogue from MM2. If I don't grab this now, I don't think it will be there when it gets back to me, and it's the last song on that album that I truly like.

For my other selection I'm taking the only song from MM1 that I feel stands out from the rest. I like many other songs more than this one, but I want to get this before it goes and I have to represent MM1 in a lower fashion. Elec Man stage.

Pick 15

Ok, this one is based more on need. Since MM2, 3, and 5 titles are gone, and since Aaron still needs a title and has 2 picks right after me, I have to pick the title screen to MM4, which is the only substantial title track left in my eyes. I didn't want to get stuck with a 20 second long track!

Saturday, December 18, 2010

Moving on....

So for my next pick you will be happy and surprised to know it is not from Mega Man 2. When I first heard this song I didn't like it very much, but as it plays on it actually has a really cool sound to it. It has now become one of my favorites. It is from Mega Man 4...

Ring Man

Barrie calls me Wood Man in the morning

So much choice this early in the contest, still hard to choose.

This first choice I'm not sure if Aaron loves or feels nothing for. Either way, I covet this track and can't go another two rounds with it still on the board.

Mega Man 4 - Dust Man

Next, this title track is just plain awesome, and a necessity now that 3 and 2 are off the board.

Mega Man 5 - Title

Number 11

Ok, well here we go again with Mega Man 2. This game is obviously far superior to the others. I am going to go to with Wood Man! Not only was it my favorite level, but we also know that I like Metal! He hates metal, which makes victory so much sweeter!

Also, I think the implications with picking him are far reaching haha.

Pick 10

Gotta start dipping into the stages. It' so hard to not pick something from 2 or 3. I'll go with Flash Man from MM2.

Trial

I just put everyone on the email list. This is a trial to see if people get an email when a pick is posted.

Pick #8/9...branching out.

Cj, I want your opinion on this, but the blog has revolutionized this I feel. easier to comment, and WAY easier to follow. each post gets a new title vs. the RE: of the email. I'm lovin' this.

For pick #8, I'm going with the only truly different stage select music. Mega Man 3. It's a classic as well and obviously original.

For pick #9, I'm breaking the inevitable mold of songs from Mega Man 2 and 3 at the begining of the draft. I'm going with Gravity Man from 5. I love the base line and it has a smooth opening with hints of starriness without being too outer spacey.

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Pick #7

For this one, I decided to go for a category that I feel only has one or 2 strong contenders, so i'd better pick one before anyone else. And so I went with Stage Boss: Mega Man 2. It might be the most iconic song out there.

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Pick Number 6

It's only fitting that since I took the Mega Man 2 prologue, my next pick is the Mega Man 2 Title Screen that goes along with it. Gotta start this CD with a bang.

Mega Man 2 Title Screen

The 4th pick, the 5th pick, and what number comes after that?

Since no one has tabbed the stage themes yet, I get my pick of the litter. My choice is simply my favorite regular stage theme and perhaps the first song in the Mega Man series that I really fell hardcore for. The second is a favorite of mine from Mega Man 3 and immediately came to mind. There are other great ones too in the same tier so it was hard deciding.

Bubble Man
Snake Man

And with the 3rd pick

It's really hard to pick, but I think I have to go with the sound that started it all. I think we can all agree that dating back to our MM playing games this is the song remember the most...

The prologue from Mega Man 2.

I can't think of MM without that beginning.

2nd pick of the 2010 MM draft..

From Mega Man 2... Skull Castle Part 1

As one of the Wily Stage tracks. There are plenty of quality Wily songs, but I knew right away this would be my first pick. It's totally epic, and totally metal.

And with the first pick...

Title song to Megaman 3. Although since this game has no intro track, I'm taking the song as MY intro track (CJ gave this the go ahead). I love the slow jazziness of the song which speeds up. Lastly, if I had to choose one megaman song to learn on piano, this is it. Enjoy...
