You Guys Owe Me Some Better Picks

So I don't know if any of you have listened to Chinese Democracy. It's kind of a hot mess, but in a good way. After 15 years or however long it obviously couldn't live up to any hype it had, nor does it compare to any of the work with the original lineup. But the songs are so big and so far out there that it's certainly a curiousity worth listening to. Choice quote from a Rolling Stone review:

"Most of these songs also go through multiple U-turns in personality, as if Rose kept trying new approaches to a hook or a bridge and then decided,'What the hell, they're all cool.'"

So I don't mind ending with a Chinese Democracy track, though I would have loved a total of 12 songs so I could have taken an extra VR song and another Use Your Illusion song as well. I'll take this song, which is perhaps the most straight-forward on the disc and also probably the most catchy: I.R.S.

You've got some fucking attitude

For my cover song, I really would have wanted Live and Let Die in the 3rd or 4th round. Since Ian took it so quickly, I had to go to The Spaghetti Incident, which I never bothered to look at before this draft. I didn't realize that they had 2 of my favorite punk songs on there! I would have taken I Don't Care About You, which is formerly by Fear... but realized there is a hidden track after it, so I disqualified it. Instead, I'm taking the Misfits cover, Attitude. Which is really short for a GnR song.

Two picks to round out my draft.  Yet to take anything off UYI 2, so I'll finally represent with Yesterdays.

And yes Dorian, I considered taking night train.  Though in the car ride this morning I actually decided to take a different Ape-Tit song.  My Michelle.

This was one of the hardest picks, since this is the last unrestricted pick I can make, and I know Milhouse won't pick the cover songs I'd choose from, but he might pick this song cause I've heard him listen to it. This should not be a 9th rounder. I'm on the Nightrain!

Roll-Playing Game

My two VR tracks have been more on the slower/ballad side of things, so I needed something with a little bit more to it. (Despite my affinity for Gravedancer.) Could have taken Just Sixteen or Headspace, but this is classic album opener stuff, fast and short: Let It Roll.

This song title made me think about the scene from Hot Shots Part Deux when Charlie Sheen is in bed and she does the back flip onto the bed.  Anyway here is what Tim emailed me.

At this point there are four Ape-Tit for Destruction tracks I could take and be happy. Choosing between them is like splitting hairs. Hard to even qualify why I'm gravitating to this one. Oh well, it's all good: Think About You.

This is going to be my Kicker or D/ST pick. Not a fan of Libertad, but almost all the songs on there are taken, so I need to get a half decent one or be penalized. Heh. "Penalized" I'm taking Spay.

Still There...

Do It For The Kids is very underrated I think.  One of those "second track on the albums" that gets overlooked because it's not the opening song.  Glad it fell to me.

Was gonna take Big Machine, but felt that Superhuman was different enough than Do It For The Kids that it gave me some variety.  So I'll take that.

How I feel on Mondays

I love GnR so much more, but guess I'll finally take a crack at a required VR song. Surprisingly, this song is still here, and I really thought it was one of their top three singles. Anyway, please Set Me Free.

Sorry for the delay, traveling yesterday and needed a few minutes of time to review my next pick. Need a track from Use Your Illusion II, which I don't think is their strongest album, but the piano in this track is the appealing option here: Breakdown.

My wife told me what they say in this next song: The Last Fight. In a 10-track draft I'm not messing around with my second-tier choices ... this is my favorite from Libertad, and certainly appeals to me because of its melodic nature.

Damnit Dorian, stop forcing my hand with these singles. Nice Boys is a great choice by Aaron, one of those underrated songs I wish I could have taken a couple rounds later. But since we're on such a singles kick, might as well take a song I really adore and cover GN'R Lies proper: Patience.

Sweet Child of Mine would have been my ideal 1-2, but pretty impossible to snag both. This is a luxury pick because the whole album is so good, but if we're closing out the run on singles, I wanted to grab it because the beginning still gives me chills after all these years: Welcome to the Jungle.

Miami, perhaps

Not an easy pick, cause I already had my heart set on Aaron's first pick. But i'll take a song that contains some of Slash's best solos. Paradise City!

How is it still there???

There is no way I should be selecting this song at 5th overall.  A song worthy of 1.1 status.  Anyway:  Sweet Child O' Mine.

If that was the only pick I had to make I would have made it earlier today.  Next selection was tougher. Do I go for best song or hedge and pick what I consider is the second best song and last top tier song on another album.  Yea, the later.  I'll take Mary Mary.

Crying already

Damn CJ, you already ruined my entire plan for this draft. Despite having 2 versions of this song, which lowers their value, I'll have to pick this song anyway. I select Don't Cry, the original version on Use Your Illusion 1.

Chocolate Rain

GNR is all about over-the-top excess, and nothing is more epic than this track. It had to be taken in the first round: November Rain.
